Wonderful (tag) is an amazing track! It just blows my mind that he was thinking of adding something so out there and strange to Wonderful just makes me think of the directions he was thinking about taking the song in.
Irregardless, I think he picked the right one for the 2004 version of Smile!
I work in an office with guys that grew up with this stuff and yet they sum the beach boys up as 'cheesy', granted the did write 'ten little indians'.
But besides that, they fail to recognize the impact of a record like Pet Sounds, it aggravates the hell out of me.
Of course music is subjective, but great song writing and timeless music is not. They give me shit when I say Beach Boys are better than the Beatles, the way I actually see it is The Beatles have a lot more decent songs, but The Beach Boys' best songs are far better. For me 'Cabinessence' tops anything in The Beatles catalog.
What if Carl and Dennis (although i believe he did) would have really loved Smile, told Mike if he didn't like it to learn a fucking instrument and write a new record or take a hike. Than maybe my parents would actually know what Smile is and we would have never heard kokomo.
With that said, I really do love Mike Love's nasally voice, I just wish he wasn;t such a douchebag.
