Samples of Brian Wilson's New Album!

Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin Sampler by Beach Boys Blog

In case you haven't been to Amazon or Itunes lately, samples of Brian Wilson's new album "Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin" are out. I've compiled them neatly and put them here for you to enjoy.

The new Brian Wilson album does George and Ira Gershwin songs in the Brian way. And word on the street is the album is great! It's the best solo Brian album ever and Gershwin sounds fresher than the freshest laundry you can imagine. August 17, 2010 is when it arrives and you can pre-order it here: http://brianwilson.com/

I'll be posting a review when it comes out. Let me know what you think of the songs!

Well...

I mean, good for him. I'm glad he's making stuff and lots of people will like it.

It's not totally my thing, though. I guess that living in Southern California, being surrounded by incredible studio musicians, being well off... maybe you're bound to make music that sort of drifts in this direction?

I miss when Brian's music felt really sweet, and not just sentimental. There was always a lot of sadness to his old songs that made them so sweet. I miss that.

Either BW has been taking great care of himself or they did some great stuff to make his voice sound better than it has it years. Hmmm...

I had heard the samples, and I just pre-ordered the album off brianwilson.com, and as a bonus I got the mp3 of "They Can't Take That Away From Me".

Is it revolutionary? No. But it sure makes me smile, especially on this track when he hits the high notes - "no they CAN'T take that way from me"!

The music is feel-good, and has a nice BBoys vibe. I'm looking forward to getting my limited edition autographed vinyl copy!

How can this be Brian's best solo album when it doesn't include one original song?

Since when does a solo album require an original song? Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and hundreds of others all have marvelous albums that are all or mostly written by others.

It can be his best because people like the material. It can be his best because people like the mood. It can be his best because people like his voice. It can be his best because it has a good flow.

I'm not saying it's his best, myself. I'm just addressing your question.

Brian has two co-composer credits on the album, and arranged the whole damn thing so yeah, I'd say it's a solo album. And he does sound amazing. Some of that may be studio sweetening but so what? This was clearly a labor of love, and the music is undeniably good. His best ever? So long as Smile exists under his own name, I'm not sure anything else can compare, but again, so what? He's making wonderful music, and thank God for Disney, which is actually PROMOTING it! How many of Brian's albums never got any press at all?

I'm hoping someone posts the bonus track 9hint, hint).
