C-C-C-C-CRINGE!!!

I was just looking on youtube for good videos of the Beach Boys with John Stamos in them, when I discovered this video of the Beach Boys (Mike Love's Beach Boys) doing a medley of 3 of their hit songs along with special guest star Mike Love's short-breathed, out-of-tune, uninspired singing.

And his vocals really are the unexpected guest star of this performance. His singing was so bad that it takes on a life of its' own. You can actually hear the audience cheer when Mike Love ends his slaughtering of the verses to California Girls, Kokomo and Fun, Fun, Fun and his younger, fuller-lunged backing band pull off those vocal harmonies that he [Mike Love] used to be such an important part of [in the original Beach Boys].

I know this aired on March 30, 2010 and I'm sorry, but I don't watch Dancing With The Stars for this exact sort of reason.

Doesn't the inclusion of John freakin' Stamos really preclude any Beach Boys video from being "good?"

Bruce stated ( I believe on the Britain Board)that Mike was suffering from some throat issue Laryngitis/bronchitis ,can't remember which one. Now, I saw these guys in Wabash Indiana at the Honeywell center and they ROCKED!! Excellent show. Mike's vocals were weak at times ,kinda soft. Some songs he belted out like it was 1964 (well, one or two songs)The band wisely shares vocal duties. I went to this concert with the mindset of it being Mike Love with Bruce and a back up band, not the real Beach Boys. The place was sold out and the crowd (mostly older) loved them.

I don't want to be a cruel guy here and say Mike Love isn't allowed to have a sore throat, but let's not try to pretend like this performance is excusable.

The Beach Boys have had numerous embarrassing TV moments and this is probably just the biggest and most humiliating.

At least the girls are easy on the eye. I hate the fact a band with one original member can use the name "The Beach Boys" when they are nothing but a cover band.

Call me any swear word you want. I know i deserve it for saying this: but sometimes i think Dennis and Carl are better off for never seeing Mike Love massacre their legacy EVEN FURTHER by singing terribly in a bowling alley while looking like Dennis Hopper's scrawny cousin in a leather jacket on Singing with the Stars.

I don't know how Brian blocks this crap out. I think i'll go home and listen to "Looking back with Love."

Absolutely horrendous. But as long as someone hands over a buck, MIke will take it.

Hey, at the end of the day, they're keeping the Beach Boys songs live and alive. That's a positive for me!

I saw my hero John Fahey at McCabe's in Santa Monica and remember at the time being extremely disappointed in his antics (having ordered a cheeseburger, upon delivery eating it onstage midperformance, etc) although when he did get down and perform it was transcendental. Those moments, however, failed to make up for the incredible amount of 'lost time' I then perceived.

Months afterwards, John passed from a previous-to-this-performance diagnosed condition of which I was unaware at the time. Yeah, I felt like shit remembering how I felt betrayed. And yeah, I was glad as hell I still got a chance to see and hear my hero within reach of my fingers and mind and spirit.

Don't knock a good thing when it's down. Mike's been a total shithead business-wise all these years, but forgive an old man his foibles. Remember the decades it took Brian to get over himself and his past choices? Look at him now. That could be Mike next year. Don't give up on a good thing. There ain't many of them left.

Warnakey--you must be thrilled. Stamos did a guest turn on "Entourage." Blessedly, a non-musical role.

Stupiddle...I think you miss the point. It might be easier to look upon Love with kinder eyes if he STILL wasn't being a prick. If he STILL didn't believe he was this massive creative force behind the BB's. And if he EVER was at least a little reticent about what a stinking shithead he was to his cousins, Brian in particular. And quite frankly if he changed his wardrobe.

Let's forget and forgive the laryngitis...
It sounds like a band wihout songs, and a song without a band.
